Lazy Summer Saturday

While I'm actually quite fond of actual seasons, thunderstorms, and snow...I've adored this lovely summer weather we've been having.  Southern California has actually been quite mild so far (only 92 in Yorba Linda last week, which is usually about 10 degrees hotter than anywhere else in Orange County).  All I want to do is bask in the sun and enjoy my friends, which I had the pleasure of doing yesterday.  I went to Ricky's and laid in the grass while his pup Simba dozed in the shade.  He made fresh blueberry mojitos while his mom and Mindy cooked up yummy potato and leek gratin.  This was followed by Ricky and Matt putting some burgers on the grill and soaking our feet in tubs with bath salts.  Simple joys are what summer is all about.

This was followed by a date with Franci, who cooked me some delicious coq au vin (and donned the absolute cutest apron to do so).  She and I did the usual- gabbed on the couch and enjoyed a night in.  Although I have been adventuring out more lately, I'm quite a homebody.

Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook

This little hiking area has sort of become my "spot" with my friend Ricky even though we've only been there a handful of times. I enjoy going there because it gives me the chance to be active while also being outside (but be warned: parking sucks, and it's likely you'll have to cross a very busy street to get there- unless you choose to pay for parking, which no one does).  Hetzler's Stairs of Hell (not my name) gets your heart pounding, but it's worth it- once you get to the top, you have views of all of LA: Downtown, Hollywood, Century City, all the way to the coastline.  I love that this little hiking spot is one my commute to work, and I think I will be going there a lot this summer (especially since my gym is closed for renovations next week).  Without further ado:
